MASTER MODERN BARIATRIC SURGERY: MINIMALLY INVASIVE TECHNIQUES AND CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY
Currently, there is a significant expansion in the demand for bariatric surgeries performed by laparoscopic techniques. These techniques are considered the preferred approach for most surgical procedures. Patients choose this type of procedure because they are less invasive, safer, and have a quicker postoperative recovery. The course is aimed at a complete understanding of the bariatric patient in all its complexity and dimension. It presents a common core of understanding, debates, and adjustments of views between surgeons and the multidisciplinary team, as well as the improvement of various surgical techniques, management of complications, revisional surgeries, bariatric endoscopy, and future perspectives in the treatment of morbid obesity. Well-prepared surgeons can change the life story of metabolic patients, adding time and quality to their lives. This also results in lower costs for public and private health systems, reduced absenteeism, and lower health expenses and early retirements. Therefore, the theoretical/practical training in Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery is fully justified, focusing on the day-to-day life of the bariatric and metabolic surgeon, with theoretical classes from the leading national specialists. Exhaustive training of techniques on live models, dry-lab, and cadaver-lab. Participation in live surgeries and following the routine of prominent names in bariatric and metabolic surgery in Curitiba and Argentina, during a supervised internship where students can clarify all their doubts.

Methodology

The training is theoretical and practical for understanding the operation and components of the technological platform to be used in surgery.

All in-person training will involve the use of:
  • Simulation center and in the surgical room, focusing on the usual operation and problem-solving.
  • Complementary pre-clinical training that will involve the development of motor skills based on simulation of the surgical techniques focused on the training.
  • The surgical techniques will also include the observation of surgical cases, providing the student with the experience of assisting in procedures, as well as performing procedures in training and under supervision.
  • All these steps will be supervised by a mentor surgeon, with extensive practical experience and established knowledge in the technical area being trained.
The classes will take place as follows:
  • Theoretical EAD classes taught by reference professionals in the field, presentation of live surgeries with discussion of clinical cases.
  • Practical training on live and inanimate models.
  • Observational internship, which provides experience with the real routine of the service in Minimally Invasive Surgery.
